Executive Summary

Since its establishment in January 1998, Healthcarelink has focused its resources on the creation of health monitoring technology and services with the goal of reducing healthcare costs while providing a “new standard of care.” Healthcare costs are expected to rise more than 11 percent for U.S. employers in 2005.

One way to reduce healthcare costs significantly lies in self-monitoring by individuals with chronic conditions, especially those susceptible to infections, such as:

individuals with mild to severe asthma,
COPD (which includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema),
diabetes,
congestive heart failure (CHF),
individuals undergoing surgery,
those who have had heart attacks or any heart condition,
individuals undergoing oncology treatments
patients who are HIV+ or have AIDS and
those with a history of respiratory or non-respiratory infections .

Self-monitoring, which includes the monitoring of patients in their homes by caretakers, is at the heart of a large segment of the telemedicine industry. New York-based Waterford Advisors Inc. predicts that the global telemedicine industry will grow 40 percent annually over the next 10 years. Waterford anticipates telemedicine will represent at least 15 percent of all health care expenditures by 2010.

Healthcarelink's technologies provide a unique visual representation of vital data for fast analysis utilizing a graph format called the GraphChart™. The GraphChart System provides patients and healthcare professionals with a convenient means of communicating vital data – blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, body-weight, glucose readings, etc. – from patient to physician.

Healthcarelink completed field trials of its GraphChart Data Graphing System in 1998 through 1999, graphing the vital data of patients with asthma, diabetes, hypertension, congestive heart failure (CHF) and AIDS and more recently a trial of its new High-Risk Pregnancy program. These tests were completed with a premier retirement community, a top-100 hospital and an AIDS hospice.

In 2001 through 2002 Healthcarelink developed a system for the detection of bioterrorism events which utilizes the self-monitoring of a statistically significant percentage of the U.S. population. The technology provides an earlier warning than any system the government has in place or planned (said a U.S. State Department staff). It is now the property of BioAlert Systems, Inc., and will be tested in 2005 through funding from the U.S. government.

Healthcarelink's GraphChart System - General Health Monitoring - technology is capable of receiving, storing, graphing and forwarding vital data from hundreds of thousands of patients daily, using Healthcarelink's proprietary software and systems. The resulting GraphCharts can be viewed by patients and healthcare professionals on the Internet anywhere in the world using an encoded GraphChart ID. No personal identifying information is recorded in the GraphChart database and therefore it is HIPAA compliant.

Patients can enter their vital health data through the wired Internet, wireless satellite, telephones, fax machines, wireless email devices and special one-button scanners – more methods than any competitive system – and their GraphCharts are made available in less than 120 seconds on the Internet. Highlighted bands on the GraphCharts – a proprietary feature – indicate normal limits for vital data, making analysis easy and fast. Health insurance carriers and self-insured corporations comprise Healthcarelink’s target primary markets for GraphChart System services.

Healthcarelink's GraphChart Health-State Management System ("HSM") provides commercial clients and healthcare professionals with a tool that will more efficiently manage the health conditions of large numbers of patients. By entering an Access Code, known only to them, the HSM System enables family practices, specialists, and health insurance case managers to monitor their patients' daily, triggering early intervention when necessary, thus keeping healthcare costs down while improving services.
